Small businesses are seeing labor growth this year, but hospitals still have staffing shortages. Healthcare worker numbers are steadily growing but remain below pre-pandemic trends, according to a Bank of America report published in April. Outpatient care centers are 9.4% behind on growth, while the hospital labor force has seen small gains at 0.3%. In fact, healthcare workers made up a significant portion of the people leaving their jobs during the Great Resignation. Patients will still see labor shortages in ERs and care facilitiesDespite labor gains, patients could still experience the impacts of the physician shortage.

But as the children became adults and moved out, the second floor was deserted and maintaining the lawn and pool became a burden. Like many members of Generation X facing an empty nest, the Shipleys decided to look for a home better suited to their needs where they could eventually live in retirement. They chose a three-bedroom, single-story house in Bridgeland, a planned community about 35 miles away. “We could live here forever.”Mr. Shipley, 54, added that the single story was a draw. Now Gen Z-ers — one of whom recently told The New York Times that the idea of paying for a dating app subscription gives them the “ick” — make up the apps’ primary user base. But people in this age group say that they have more luck finding love elsewhere, like on TikTok or Snapchat, or that they aren’t looking for romantic connections at all.

But I've decided not to track my high school senior when he's out and about — even when he's behind the wheel. I'm not naïve: I know my son won't always make the correct decisions. If enacted, the bill would give ByteDance 165 days, or a little more than five months, to sell TikTok. The legislation also has the support of the White House and House Speaker Mike Johnson. House lawmakers voted unanimously in the same session Thursday to advance a second bill, one that would limit US companies’ ability to sell Americans’ personal information to foreign adversaries. Speaking to reporters on the Capitol steps Thursday, Gallagher rejected characterizations of the bill as a TikTok ban. A legislative factsheet from the sponsors of the House bill claims the proposal does not censor speech.

CNN —A European Space Agency satellite is expected to reenter and largely burn up in Earth’s atmosphere on Wednesday morning. The agency’s Space Debris Office, along with an international surveillance network, is monitoring and tracking the Earth-observing ERS-2 satellite, which is predicted to make its reentry at 6:14 a.m. The exact time of the satellite’s reentry remains unclear due to the unpredictability of solar activity, which can change the density of Earth’s atmosphere and how the atmosphere tugs on the satellite. The ERS-2 satellite has an estimated mass of 5,057 pounds (2,294 kilograms) after depleting its fuel, making it similar in size to other space debris that reenters Earth’s atmosphere every week or so, according to the agency. ERS-2’s backstoryThe Earth-observing ERS-2 satellite first launched on April 21, 1995, and it was the most sophisticated satellite of its kind at the time to be developed and launched by Europe.

London CNN —Next season’s style brief is to channel your gray-haired nosy neighbor, according to designer Jonathan Anderson. In China, Lunar New Year, which begins on Saturday, is a time of intense travel and the only time of year many can make it home. For those living abroad, making a trip can be impossible, whether because of finances or time. And many people, less traditional than their parents, forgo the traditional homegoing altogether. Wherever the holiday is celebrated, hot pot offers a chance for loved ones and chosen family alike to gather close over the same steaming bowl, lowering ingredients into the communal broth for all to grab, and assembling servings for one another. (Hot pot is a staple of Chinese home cooking, a dinner shared among family members, with variations all over Asia.)

You’re probably a millennial, the generation now likeliest to be raising children. Millennial households with children own half as many, about 14 percent. And the disparity persists despite the fact that millennials (aged 26 to 41) now outnumber boomers, making up 28 percent of the U.S. population. Boomers (aged 58 to 76) account for 27 percent. Among the other generations, Gen X-ers (aged 42 to 57, making up 24 percent of the population) with children own 12 percent of larger homes, while Gen Z households (aged 19 to 25, with 12 percent of the population) with children own just 0.2 percent.

If Gen Z can’t afford the rent, how are they ever going to buy a home? A recent study by Point2 examined housing markets in 100 of the largest U.S. cities, using earnings and employment data to find the places where Gen Z-ers have the best and worst chances of buying a home. Older Gen Z-ers, that is. The study found that Gen Z-ers are out of luck in most large cities. Richmond, Va., Newark, Boston and New York all were among the hardest areas for Gen Z-ers to own homes.

In the post, Park thanked her costar and boyfriend Paul Forman for helping her through "three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections," and "excruciating pain." According to NHS inform, "septic shock is a life-threatening condition that happens when your blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection." CNN —Ashley Park is focusing on being “grateful” after experiencing a serious medical scare over the holidays. “While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs,” the “Emily in Paris” actor, 32, wrote on her verified Instagram on Friday. When affected by sepsis, the body essentially overreacts to an infection, which can cause organs to shut down. Both sepsis and septic shock require immediate treatment. In the comments section under Park’s post, Collins wrote that she “can hardly look at these without crying,” adding that she’s “forever grateful” Park is on the mend.

The rise of Prime comes at a time when key beverage stocks are struggling for traction. PEP 1Y mountain Shares of Pepsico have fallen over the past 12 months, along with its two main peers. Pepsi, for instance, is pushing newer versions of Gatorade with Gatorade Zero, G-Fit and Gatorlyte, as well as the Fast Twitch energy drink. The big three companies do not break out the financials for their sports drink brands individually, and any impact could be outweighed by other categories, like Pepsi's snack foods.

Who Are You Calling ‘Delulu’?
  + stars: | 2023-11-23 | by ( Yaa Addae | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Call it magical thinking or manifesting, but the belief that people can influence their reality through sheer will has existed for centuries. Now, there’s a new term for this idea: “delulu.”Derived from the word delusional, delulu first gained popularity this summer as shorthand for unrelenting confidence. (Posts with the word have more than five billion views on TikTok.) Though it has roots in the K-pop community to describe a fan’s parasocial relationship with a celebrity, delulu is now widely used by Gen Z-ers and young millennials to describe the process of making the seemingly impossible possible — or at least of coming to believe that they can. In the words of Bianca Bernardo, a 23-year-old content creator in Los Angeles: “May all your delulu come trululu, because being delulu is the solulu.”
